Went out to Burwash Manor for their 'Sizzling Sunday' event today, mainly because we knew Nic Williams from BGE was there cooking (it was him who gave me the heads up) and also because Leech and Sons butchers have a shop there, and we always get our quality meat from them...(albiet the Melbourn shop).
We tried Nic's pulled pork and BBQ sauce with 'pink onion salad', and wow, that was sharp and spicy, and cut right through the rich pork. Something now on our list 'to do!'.
We also saw the BGE car, with the optional cup holder upgrade!!!!

(AW) iGRill - A Review
After receiving my surprise gift, I decided to give it a test run.
First, I opened it up and had a quick look at the instructions. It took a while to find out what app I needed to download. Why oh why not give us a QR code? It is not as if you can use this without a phone anyway?
The probe came on a snazzy little tidy holder, but i'll probably end up draping it from the probe hook with all the others!
I had a little trouble getting it to work, as when the battery went in, it pushed the contact down so only the bend in the contact was touching, making it cut out. But a quick bend of the contact and it seems to work ok.
Well, the probe went in the bird, and to do a comparison, I have also used two other probes.
Next I fired up the app...
This was easy to navigate, and all I needed to do was select the meat I was cooking, and it set the temperature for me!
I delved a bit deeper, and you can also set your own settings, which is handy, as there was not one for the '3 bird fatty' that Newman cooks!

When the temperature got within 10 degrees of the target, the phone beeps to alert you!
The iGrill worked perfectly, and was within 5f of the baby monitor temp, so accurate enough for me!
Cheer Mike :-)

(AW) Beer can chicken with Home rub
We have been meaning to try out some new rubs. This recipe came from the Pit Cue, and smelt divine when we made the Home Rub from scratch..
Next we rubbed the bird, and left her over night to absorb all those flavours..
Next we filled the beer roaster with er, beer!
And before sticking the bird on it, we injected the bird with a mixture of stock (swiss bouillon, paprika and butter)...
Then we stuck it on the BGE, and probed the bird big time! She is enjoying the DigiQ, Babymonitor and the new iGrill probes!
We carved her up, still moist, and enjoyed...
The taste of the rub, and the injection made this bird superb!

About 2 hours later, when the bird hit 170f....
We carved her up, still moist, and enjoyed...

I was greeted by a surprise package from the northern contingent when I got home.
A big thanks for that Mike!
I will give it a review this weekend when I try it out.

(AW) Post AvN Kefta Mkaouara
AKA The day we cooked egg on the egg
After the epic weekend of drinking, catching up with old mates and watching the Army thrash the senior service, we cooked this Moroccan dish on the BGE. The dish is normally cooked on a Tagine, but we have adapted it for the BGE using the dutch oven.
First we made meatballs from home ground lamb leg steaks, mixed with fresh parsley ground cumin and HOT smoked paprika!
We heated up some oil in the dutch oven, and browned off the meatballs...
Once browned, we removed the meatballs, and using the same oil, add the onions and spices...
It is important to cook the spices (cumin, hot smoked paprika, ground black pepper and garlic)...
Once cooked off, add two tins of chopped tomatoes and cook with the lid ON for about 15 mins at about 300f...
Remove the lid, and carefully crack in four free range eggs (don't break the yolks), put the lid back on, and cook for another 5 minutes..
Remove the dutch oven and serve from it at the table (put a silicon matt down first!)
Works well simply with bread!

(AW) Election Tikka
So, on this election day we had a vote on what to have for tea, and our home made Chicken Tikka Masala won by a landslide victory of 2 votes to none!
Same recipe as before, and it was epic!
